Many enthusiasts view hammering purely through a design lens; however, its roots reveal a functional dimension, dating back thousands of years to the earliest civilisations, where it was used to transform raw metals into tools, weapons, and later, artistic objects. Today, this technique is preserved by a select group of craftsmen, including those at Yard-O-Led, who have mastered it to perfection and present it in their new model.

Design & Materials

Handcrafted in Yard-O-Led’s workshop, the edition is rendered in solid sterling silver, featuring a refined hammered pattern across the cap and barrel – each texture the result of countless planishing hammer strikes applied by hand over many hours. This creates a unique surface that reflects light with subtle variation and depth, ensuring no two pens are exactly alike. Each clip is individually numbered, while the barrel bears the sterling silver hallmark, certifying its composition in 925 silver.

With this new release, Yard-O-Led also introduces its first-ever Grand model to feature a screw cap, an important milestone for the manufacturer, addressing functional considerations while preserving its distinctly British DNA.

Writing Experience & Collectibility

The new Grand Martelé is powered by an 18-carat gold nib, finely engraved with ornamental detailing and the manufacturer’s logo. Available in Fine, Medium, and Broad, it delivers a smooth and consistent writing experience. Produced in limited annual quantities, the edition reinforces Yard-O-Led’s commitment to low-volume manufacture and enduring quality – positioning it as a compelling collectible for those who value craftsmanship and see writing as an intentional act above all else.
