About Elbwood
Elbwood is a privately run, Hamburg-based atelier founded by Frank Pressentin – an artist passionate about craftsmanship who gives expression to his vision through high-quality writing instruments produced in very small batches. Each model is carefully developed, crafted from solid materials, and produced on hand-operated, analog precision machines. Every piece is then individually calibrated and marked with a unique reference number that traces its place within the series.
With a minimalist design language that prioritizes quality over quantity, each writing instrument incorporates premium materials: ebonite, selected woods, silver, brass, and gold. The three core model families – POCKETMASTER, SHORTCAP, and LONGCAP –form the foundation of the NINE Core Collection. Additional collections include special editions, precious pieces, and bespoke projects.
Regardless of the edition or the intricacy of its design, Frank and his team ensure that every writing instrument fits naturally in the hand and feels like a familiar tool in everyday use.
Handmade in Hamburg in small quantities, Elbwood is the go-to choice for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate fountain pens not as status symbols, but as true expressions of craftsmanship, form, and personality

Elbwood's Core Collection - The Nine
THE NINE form ELBWOOD’s Core Collection, the first collection in the history of Frank Pressentin. Nine writing instruments in three forms:
POCKETMASTER
At approximately 10 cm when closed, the POCKETMASTER is the most compact writing instrument in Elbwood's lineup, expanding into a fully functional pen when its cap is screwed on, ensuring a secure and comfortable grip even for those with larger hands.
The short cap reveals a knurled grip section, highlighting the craftsmanship that defines ELBWOOD’s design language. Each 0.5 mm groove is precisely cut into the metal using a specialized knurling tool, creating both visual structure and a secure grip.
Produced in limited editions, the POCKETMASTER is crafted from refined combinations of materials including wood, silver, brass, and ebonite.
SHORTCAP
The Pocketmaster’s larger sibling, the SHORTCAP, is defined by an elongated silhouette interrupted by a vertically knurled grip section – left deliberately visible by the shorter cap.
This design brings the craftsmanship to the forefront and highlights the precision present in every detail. Each 0.5 mm deep groove is carefully cut into the metal using a specialized knurling tool, ensuring both visual structure and secure handling.
Produced in limited editions, the SHORTCAP is crafted from refined combinations of materials including wood, silver, brass, and ebonite.
LONGCAP
The LONGCAP features an imposing silhouette with a minimalist flair. Its form is reduced to the essential, allowing the material to speak while naturally guiding the eye to what matters. Well proportioned and carrying considerable weight, it creates a sense of calm both visually and in hand.

Penmaker's Atelier Special Edition
The Penmaker's Atelier is Frank's soul project and the brand's first major special edition that reflects both the passion and the craft behind each Elbwood writing instrument, drawing inspiration from the tones of his studio.
To develop it, he joined forces with the Schönberger Ebonite Factory in Hitzacker, which created a custom ebonite rod in a unique color scheme exclusively for Elbwood.
Offered in the three writing instrument versions – POCKETMASTER, SHORTCAP, and LONGCAP – it is dedicated to collectors and enthusiasts who seek a truly unique piece of Elbwood's artistic heritage.

Preziosen
The Precious Line is where ELBWOOD’s artistic ambitions come to life. Each edition sits at the intersection of fine writing, jewelry, sculpture, and art, transforming the writing instrument into a collectible object of craftsmanship. Here, artistic expression takes centre stage while functionality remains a defining constant. Many of the pieces are the result of collaborations with exceptional artisans such as Alvaro-Luca Ellwart (sand casting, precious stones) and Nora Kovats (enamel, drawing). Materials used include solid gold and silver, enamel, and precious stones. Each piece is either unique or produced in extremely limited batches.
