Design & Materials
Design-wise, the pen is shaped by the soot of a candle flame, with very little intervention from the artist. The process begins with a layer of white Urushi lacquer applied to the pen's surface. The pen is then held over a candle flame, allowing soot to settle naturally onto the lacquer. The lacquer cures without sanding or polishing, preserving every mark left by the process.
The result is a raw, textured finish where no two pens are alike. Each piece celebrates the subtle imperfections that make traditional Urushi craftsmanship so distinctive.
Piuma Hane Murakumo is available with either Scribo's 18k gold nib in Extra Extra Fine, Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad and BB, or a 14k flexible gold nib in Extra Fine, Fine and Medium. Both are paired with an ebonite feed and a cartridge/converter filling system. Every pen is presented in a pouch made from authentic Japanese kimono silk.
