115th Anniversary Commemorative Edition HIROSHIMA: Honouring the Roots

Sailor's 115th Anniversary Commemorative Edition honors Hiroshima Prefecture, the home of its penmaking heritage for more than a century.

Inspiration

To create the collection, Sailor brought together the materials, craftsmanship and people of the region that have shaped the brand into what it is today. Different types of Hiroshima-grown wood, traditional techniques, symbolism and hundreds of hours of work resulted in two limited models: HIROSHIMA Yosegi Zaiku and HIROSHIMA Momiji.

Design & Materials

Visually restrained, like most Japanese pens, the edition sets itself apart through the quality of its finish and choice of materials. The Yosegi Zaiku edition combines three woods, all grown in Hiroshima: Momiji maple, ginkgo and sawtooth oak, associated with harmony, timelessness and strength. Once the woods have been carefully selected, the craftsmen cut and assemble the pieces using traditional parquetry techniques, bringing the character of each wood together in a playful geometric pattern. The surface is then oil-finished, preserving the natural charm and feel of the wood.

The Momiji edition is made entirely from Japanese maple. In addition to its fine grain, revealed through polishing, maple also holds an important place in the region s cultural heritage: it has been the official tree of Hiroshima Prefecture since 1966. Both editions use black PMMA resin for the grip section, complemented by gold-plated metal fittings. The cap ring bears a finely engraved SAILOR 115th ANNIVERSARY HIROSHIMA Est. to mark the occasion, while an individual serial number is laser-printed on the barrel end. The Hiroshima theme continues through the accompanying accessories, including a Bingo-gasuri cotton pen pouch, recycled Orizuru paper and traditional handmade washi.

Writing Experience & Collectibility

The anniversary edition is equipped with Sailor's large 21K gold nib, finished in two-tone gold and rhodium and engraved with a special 115th Anniversary mark. The nibs are available exclusively in MF, and each pen uses a cartridge/converter filling system. Both writing instruments measure 134 mm in length and 18.5 mm in diameter, with a weight of around 34 g, enough to feel substantial in the hand while remaining comfortable during longer writing sessions. The Yosegi Zaiku edition is limited to just 115 pieces worldwide, one for each year of Sailor's history, while Momiji is limited to 1,150 pieces.
