design08

Introduced in 2021, design08 is the second writing instrument created for Otto Hutt by Berlin based designer Mark Braun, following the designC anniversary edition. The model builds on the same Bauhaus principle of "form follows function" but takes a more technical approach.

The body and cap are made from solid brass and finished in ruthenium, giving the pen its distinctive dark grey, almost monochromatic appearance. Fine guilloché lines cover the entire 
surface, running horizontally along the barrel and vertically across the cap and finial. The 90 degree change in direction is not only decorative: it subtly references the twisting movements 
used to open and operate the pen.

The Pull+Twist™ mechanism remains a defining technical feature of design08, alongside several other details that give the pen its distinctive character, including a mechanical spring-loaded clip built from five individual components. The clip integrates directly into the concave top of the cap and retracts slightly into it when pressed.

The fountain pen features a matte PVD-coated grip section and an XL 18k yellow gold nib that provides a striking contrast to the otherwise dark ruthenium aesthetic. A rollerball version is also 
available.

designC

Introduced in 2020, the designC celebrates Otto Hutt's 100th anniversary and bears the design signature of Berlin-based designer Mark Braun. Inspired by the Bauhaus principle "form follows function" - an ideal that had shaped Karl Hutt's vision when he founded the company in 1920 - Mark Braun created a fountain pen that reflects both the Bauhaus philosophy and a century of
expertise in fine writing instruments.



The almost seamless cylindrical body is crafted from solid 925 sterling silver, interrupted only by two small 18k gold markers on the cap and barrel, a clever reinterpretation of the conventional clip. The discreet markers become part of the design itself while also acting as roll-stoppers, preventing the pen and cap from rolling across a desk.



Hidden inside the silver casing, the patented Pull+Twist™ filling system was developed specifically for the designC. The name describes exactly how it works: pull the mechanism into position, twist it, and the resulting vacuum draws ink into the fountain pen within seconds. Otto Hutt introduced the system as a world first in 2020.


The designC is limited to only 500 pieces worldwide.
