Great Characters Homage to Bruce Lee: Legacy of the Little Dragon

Bruce Lee is the latest figure to inspire Montblanc's Great Characters collection.

Inspiration

Born in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong, Bruce Lee rose to prominence in the 1960s and reached global stardom in the early 1970s with Enter the Dragon. Beyond film, he was also a martial artist, director and philosopher. He developed Jeet Kune Do, his own approach to martial arts, built around directness and adaptability. The new collection pays tribute to his life and career through details inspired by his legacy, philosophy and screen presence.

Design & Materials

The Special Edition combines black precious resin for the barrel with yellow precious resin for the cap. The yellow references Bruce Lee's famous jumpsuit worn in the pagoda sequence from Game of Death, while the dragon motif encircling the barrel is based on a drawing Lee made while filming Enter the Dragon.

The clip is shaped like a nunchaku stick, the weapon most closely associated with him on screen, while the cap ring recalls a bamboo cane, a motif that reflects Bruce Lee's philosophy of flexibility, resilience and strength. A hornet engraved on the ruthenium-coated cone nods to The Green Hornet, the television series that helped bring Lee international recognition.

The cap top features the Chinese characters for "Little Dragon", Bruce Lee's childhood nickname, linked to his birth in the Year of the Dragon. The fountain pen is completed with a ruthenium-coated solid Au 585 gold nib decorated with a yin-and-yang motif.

The Limited Edition 1940 celebrates Bruce Lee's creative vision behind the camera and his influence on martial arts. The dragon-inspired theme continues across the gold-coated cap and barrel, inlaid with yellow lacquer. Two black lacquer stripes, referencing the iconic costume Lee wore in Game of Death, run across the entire pen and break up the dragon motif, recalling the hall-of-mirrors fight scene between Lee and the villainous Han in Enter the Dragon.

The matte gold-coated cone is inspired by the adjustment ring of a film camera, referencing Lee's work as a director and actor. The gold-coated clip is shaped like part of a nunchaku, while the cap ring recalls a bamboo cane, a symbol of flexibility linked to Lee's philosophy. A mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem sits on the cap top, and the nib is made from solid Au 750 gold and engraved with a yin and yang motif.
