Inspiration

Despite its immense strength, the elephant has long been associated with wisdom, patience, and intelligence. Sailor captures the elephant under the soft glow of the moon as it walks along an ancient path with calm and grace. For the elephant, no journey is too long, no path too difficult. The design is a reminder that progress comes through wisdom, resilience, and grace, even when the destination seems out of reach.

Design & Materials

Each Zou to Gekkou fountain pen is built upon an ebonite base and decorated using the traditional Japanese Maki-e technique. This centuries-old art form involves applying layers of natural urushi lacquer before sprinkling precious metal powders onto the surface to create the designs. The elephant is rendered in fine detail against a shimmering moonlit landscape, with subtle gold and silver accents adding depth and dimension to the artwork.
Every pen is individually hand-finished by Ikki Moroike, who personally adds his painted signature and the pen's serial number to the barrel, making each example a unique work of art.

Writing Experience & Collectibility

The pen is fitted with Sailor's oversized King of Pen 21K bi-colour gold nib, available in Medium and Broad, and finished with gold and rhodium plating. Produced in-house at Sailor's factory in Kure, Hiroshima, the nib has long been a favourite among enthusiasts for its smooth, expressive writing experience.

Limited to just 50 pieces worldwide, this edition is expected to be in high demand among collectors. It holds even greater collectible value for those who already own previous editions in the Animals in the Moonlight series.
