Greek Mythology Odyssey Chapter II: The Voyage Continues

Inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, Montegrappa Odyssey Chapter II continues the brand’s Greek Mythology series. Limited to 266 fountain pens and 266 rollerballs, the edition focuses on the most challenging part of Odysseus’ journey home.

Inspiration

After the release of Odyssey Chapter I, Montegrappa returns with a new chapter inspired by one of the most influential works of classical literature.

This time, the focus shifts to the trials that shaped Odysseus’ voyage. sorcery of Circe, the shadows of the Underworld, the Sirens’ haunting call, and the perilous choice of Scylla all find their place within the design.

Unlike the previous edition, which drew inspiration from the ornate Corinthian order, Odyssey Chapter II takes cues from the Doric style. Simpler in appearance and more restrained in character, it provides the foundation for the entire piece.

Design & Materials

The barrel is decorated with a series of sterling silver friezes made using the traditional lost-wax casting process, a signature technique of the Italian house. Each one depicts a different scene from the Odyssey.

Between them, vermeil wave motifs run along the barrel, referencing the sea that accompanied Odysseus throughout his journey. The deep blue resin body adds another connection to the maritime theme. Its fluted pattern creates changing reflections as the pen is turned in hand.

Poseidon appears on the clip as a finely detailed silver sculpture. As Odysseus’ greatest adversary, his presence plays an important role in the story told by the edition.

The cap takes the shape of a Doric column capital, reinforcing the architectural inspiration behind the design.

Each writing instrument is presented in a wooden display case inspired by Odysseus’ ship.

Writing Experience & Collectibility

The fountain pen is fitted with an 18K gold nib engraved with the image of Poseidon, praised for its smooth writing experience, and features a piston-filling system.

Production for the new Montegrappa Odyssey is limited to 266 fountain pens and 266 rollerballs worldwide. The number refers to the isopsephic value of the Greek word “Ελλάς” (Greece).

This edition is aimed at collectors and enthusiasts drawn to mythology-themed objects, but it will likely hold even greater significance for those who already acquired the first edition.
