King of Pen Ukiyo-e ‘Tominomori Sukeemon-Masakata’ Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Utagawa Kuniyoshi, an Edo-period Ukiyo-e artist, depicted Tominomori Sukeemon-Masakata, one of the legendary 47 Ako-Roshi samurai. These samurai are famous for their role in the Ako Incident, also known as Chushingura (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers), and are revered in Japanese culture for their loyalty and bravery. The anonymous artist used urushi lacquer from Iwate, Japan, known for its high quality, to create this masterpiece. The intricate Taka Maki-e technique was employed, using layers of lacquer, charcoal and tin powders to produce raised patterns and designs, resulting in a three-dimensional effect.
