Penmakers Atelier Longcap Brass Fountain Pen

The LONGCAP is a handcrafted fountain pen made from the custom “The Penmaker’s Atelier” ebonite edition, developed exclusively for ELBWOOD at the Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur (SEM) in Hitzacker, Germany, with ELBWOOD’s master penmaker Frank Pressentin involved in its production on site. The barrel and cap feature a calm, satin-finished ebonite surface, with a distinctive colour palette inspired by the atmosphere of the ELBWOOD atelier. Naturally warm and organic to the touch, ebonite has been a classic material in fine writing instruments since the 1920s. Each piece is crafted from solid material, finished entirely by hand, and individually numbered, with its reference number uniquely identifying it as a special edition of 2026.

The design is reduced to the essential: a simple cylinder that gives the material room to speak for itself and puts its character at the forefront. The proportions, weight and surfaces have been deliberately considered to create a sense of calm – both visually and to the touch. The elongated cap fully encloses the finely knurled grip section, revealing the pen’s technical precision only when opened.

The grip section is crafted from solid brass and machined with a specially developed knurling tool. The precisely cut 0.5 mm grooves provide a secure grip and controlled nib guidance, combining functional precision with a distinctive visual detail. The warm metal creates a compelling dialogue with the organic colour and texture of the Penmaker’s Atelier ebonite. All mechanical and structural components are likewise crafted from solid brass, reflecting ELBWOOD’s philosophy of working from solid material throughout.

An elegant writing instrument with character – and a collector’s piece for the desk. Over time, the brass develops a natural patina through use, adding depth and individuality to each piece. The surface can be polished back to a brighter finish whenever desired. This natural evolution is an inherent expression of the material rather than a flaw.
