Penmakers Atelier Pocketmaster Pure Fountain Pen

The POCKETMASTER is a handcrafted pocket fountain pen made entirely from the custom “The Penmaker’s Atelier” ebonite edition – a material developed exclusively for ELBWOOD at the Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur (SEM) in Hitzacker, Germany, with master penmaker Frank Pressentin involved in its production on site. Its barrel, cap and grip section are all crafted from this distinctive ebonite, featuring a satin-polished surface and a colour palette inspired by the tones of the ELBWOOD atelier. Naturally warm and organic to the touch, ebonite has been a classic material in fine writing instruments since the 1920s.

The POCKETMASTER is ELBWOOD’s lightest writing instrument within the edition: compact, robust and remarkably light. With the cap screwed onto the barrel, the pocket-sized pen extends into a full-sized writing instrument that can be comfortably and securely handled even by larger hands. Its proportions, length and weight are carefully balanced to make it virtually disappear in a pocket while maintaining a calm, well-balanced presence in the hand. The POCKETMASTER is also considered ELBWOOD’s most iconic model – the design with which it all began.

The exposed grip section reveals the technical precision behind the minimalist design. A fine knurled pattern is precisely machined into the ebonite using a specialised knurling tool, providing a secure grip and controlled nib guidance while adding a subtle functional accent. ELBWOOD works exclusively from solid ebonite rod, creating a continuous materiality throughout the barrel, cap and grip section, both inside and out.

Each piece is individually numbered, with its reference number uniquely identifying it as a special edition of 2026. Over time, ebonite may develop subtle changes in colour through exposure to UV radiation and daylight. The surface can be gently repolished whenever desired. This natural evolution is an inherent expression of a material with character rather than a flaw.
