Pocketmaster Walnut & SIlver Fountain Pen

The POCKETMASTER is a handcrafted pocket fountain pen made from solid 935 silver and locally sourced walnut from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The barrel and cap are crafted from walnut taken from a tree felled around ten years ago by ELBWOOD’s master penmaker Frank Pressentin in the presence of his father and an experienced local carpenter. The wood is carefully seasoned and treated exclusively with natural linseed oil, preserving its lively grain, rich colour and warm, tactile character. The grip section, mechanism and all structural components, including concealed parts, are crafted from solid 935 silver. Each piece is made from solid material, finished entirely by hand and individually numbered, with its reference number uniquely identifying it within THE NINE 2026.

Compact in the pocket yet full-sized in use, the POCKETMASTER extends into a complete writing instrument when the cap is screwed onto the barrel, allowing it to be held comfortably and securely even in larger hands. The shortened cap exposes the finely knurled grip section, bringing the precision of its craftsmanship to the forefront. The combination of warm walnut and cool silver gives the pen a clear, timeless presence while creating a distinctive contrast between natural material and technical precision.

The clean, elongated form is deliberately interrupted by the vertically knurled grip section. The precisely cut 0.5 mm grooves provide a secure grip and controlled nib guidance, combining functional precision with a distinctive visual detail. The finely finished walnut creates a soft, natural counterpoint to the cool surface of the silver, allowing the individual grain and colour of the wood to remain fully visible.

The combination of walnut and silver gives the POCKETMASTER a reassuring sense of substance in the hand – refined and present, without ever feeling too heavy for writing. ELBWOOD works exclusively from solid material throughout, creating a continuous sense of materiality across every part of the writing instrument.

Over time, the silver develops a fine patina through use, adding depth and individuality to each piece. The surface can be polished back to a brighter finish whenever desired. This natural evolution is an inherent expression of the material rather than a flaw.
