Pocketmaster Ebonite Black 1920 Copper Fountain Pen
At just 10 cm in length, the POCKETMASTER is perhaps one of the smallest fully functional fountain pens in the world. Unscrew the cap and attach it to the back of the barrel, and the compact pocket pen transforms into a full-sized writing instrument that can be held comfortably even in larger hands. The shortened configuration reveals the finely knurled grip section at the centre, creating a distinctive visual accent.
The precisely cut 0.5 mm grooves provide a secure grip and controlled nib guidance. A three-start thread at the end of the barrel allows the cap to be securely attached with just one to one and a half turns – a precise, functional construction that is integral to the design.
The barrel, cap and grip section are crafted from fine ebonite from the Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur (SEM) in Hitzacker, Germany, in the original “1920 Black” colour. Naturally warm and organic to the touch, ebonite is a classic material in fine writing instruments. The surface is silky polished to preserve its distinctive tactile quality.
The grip section, mechanical components and structural elements are crafted from solid copper. ELBWOOD works from solid material throughout, creating a striking contrast between the deep black ebonite exterior and the warm, technical character of the copper.
Over time, both materials naturally evolve: copper develops a patina, while ebonite may subtly fade through exposure to daylight and UV radiation. Both surfaces can be gently repolished whenever desired. These changes are an inherent expression of two materials with character rather than a flaw.
Fitted with a high-quality gold nib, the POCKETMASTER combines exceptional writing performance with an ingenious, timeless design.
