The SHORTCAP is a handcrafted fountain pen made from the Limited Edition “Faroe” ebonite, with an interior crafted entirely from solid 935 silver. The barrel and cap feature a calm, satin-finished ebonite surface, while the silver components within provide structural stability, precision and a balanced feel in the hand. Each piece is crafted from solid material, finished entirely by hand and individually numbered, with its reference number uniquely identifying it within THE NINE 2026.

Elegant and refined, with a distinctive visual character, the SHORTCAP reveals its craftsmanship at first glance. Its shortened cap exposes the finely knurled silver grip section, bringing the technical precision of its construction to the forefront and creating a striking contrast between the organic ebonite and cool, precisely worked silver.

The clean, elongated form is deliberately interrupted by the vertically knurled grip section. The precisely cut 0.5 mm grooves provide a secure grip and controlled nib guidance, combining functional precision with a distinctive visual detail. The finely nuanced, lively colour and structure of Faroe ebonite create a compelling contrast with the clearly defined, technical character of the silver grip.

The barrel and cap are crafted from fine ebonite from the Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur (SEM) in Hitzacker, Germany, in the Limited Edition “Faroe”. Naturally warm and organic to the touch, ebonite is a classic material in fine writing instruments, valued for its tactile quality and distinctive character. The surface is carefully polished to reveal the characteristic colour play of Faroe while preserving the material’s warm, organic feel.

The grip section, mechanical components and all structural elements, including concealed parts, are crafted from solid 935 silver. ELBWOOD works from solid material throughout, creating a continuous sense of materiality across every part of the writing instrument.

Over time, the silver develops a fine patina through use, adding depth and individuality to each piece. The surface can be polished back to a brighter finish whenever desired. This natural evolution is an inherent expression of the material rather than a flaw.
